Mr. Tinman - There are times in our lives where we just need anyone to help us; times where we feel the lowest of low. That's what this song's about. Having less of an ability to love than a tinman, to be less courageous than the cowardly lion, and more foolish than the scarecrow - we've all felt that way sometime or another. This song's also supposed to carry the hope of getting out of that situation and taking an honest look at your life to figure out where to start rebuilding.
Siren's Lullaby is about struggling with doing wrong and being mastered by it. However, the focus is on the redemption from that place of struggle and finding freedom and life outside of your mistakes.
Quite Like This is about feeling something new. Not just that, but it's about how it feels to be loved despite making some serious mistakes. It's this sort of feeling of not understanding how you are still loved, but being desperately thankful that you are.
Hope is a song of lost love and dealing with that. We've all had times where we've been left in the dust by someone we care about, and this song deals with the feelings we're left with - hopelessness, desperation, fear.
What's Left (the really long song) - After looking at where humanity is in terms of how we treat each other, this song is just a longing for something better. It's a song of disappointment in how humanity treats each other on both a grand scale and the intimate, interpersonal scale.
May 17th is a song written for Tyler's nephew, Zachary, who was stillborn a week past his due date as a result of circumstances entirely unforeseeable and out of anyone's hands. It is a song about the hope we have that those we love will be seen again. It's about the understanding that there's a place better than this world, and though we feel loss in the deepest pieces of our being and that pain resonates for the rest of our lives, we know that they truly are happy and in a wonderful place where they're experiencing a love we can only look forward to one day.
So there they are. Those are just the songs that will be coming out on our EP, So Rises the Moon. As more songs are written we'll do our best to always tell you what we're singing about.
Until next time...
